How to Use AllStar on Mobile: Android & iOS Guide

If you are a licensed ham radio operator, you can turn your smartphone into a functional transceiver using the AllStar Link network. Before you begin the setup, you will need an electronic copy of your FCC license to complete the registration process.

Step 1: Obtain Your Official FCC License Copy

AllStarLink requires proof of licensing to validate your account. Since the FCC no longer mails paper licenses, you must download the version that displays the “Official Copy” watermark.

  1. Log in: Access the FCC ULS License Manager using your FRN and password.
  2. Navigate: On the left-hand menu, click “Download Electronic Authorizations.”
  3. Select & Download: Select your callsign, click “Add,” then click “Download” in the bottom right corner.

Step 2: Register with AllStar Link

Once you have your PDF license ready, you must create your network account. This account is required for both Android and iOS apps.

  • Visit the Website: allstarlink.org.
  • Sign Up: Click on Login/Sign Up and select Sign Up.
  • Upload Documentation: Provide your details and upload the FCC license PDF from Step 1.
  • Verify: Check your email for the activation link. Approval may take 24–48 hours.

Step 3: Device Setup (Choose Your Platform)

For Android: DVSwitch Mobile

  1. Download: Install DVSwitch Mobile from the Google Play Store.
  2. Setup: Tap More > AllStar Link WT Setup. Enter your Callsign and AllStar password.
  3. Activate: Tap Update Token. The status dot should turn green.

For iOS (iPhone/iPad): RepeaterPhone

  1. Download: Install RepeaterPhone from the Apple App Store (Note: This is a paid app, but highly recommended for its stability).
  2. Setup: Tap the Settings (gear icon) at the bottom and select New Account.
  3. Link Account: Select the AllStar Link logo. Enter your Callsign and AllStar password, then tap Save.
  4. Connect: Go to the Directory tab to search for nodes.

Step 4: Connecting and Operating

Now that you are configured, you can connect to local or distant nodes.

  1. Enter Connection Mode: * Android: Tap More > AllStar Link > Enter WT Mode.
    • iOS: Use the Directory or Favorites tab.
  2. Connect to a Node: Tap Register (Android) or Search (iOS) and enter a node number.
    • Example: To connect to the Columbia Amateur Radio Club node, enter 690060 (W4CAE) and tap Connect.
  3. To Talk: Hold the PTT (Push-To-Talk) button while speaking.
  4. To Disconnect: Tap the Hang Up (Android) or Disconnect (iOS) button when finished.
