The Columbia Amateur Radio Club
The South Carolina Statewide ARES HF Net provides another communications path in a time of emergency. While subject to the vagaries of HF propagation, it is often available when other systems are not. A training net is currently held weekly on Tuesdays at 6:00 PM local time on 3.990 MHz (+/-) LSB. All licensed hams with 75-meter operating privileges are invited to participate. We typically run Netlogger during the net to communicate frequency changes, add comments/notes, etc. You are welcome to follow along in Netlogger.Passing message trafficIn keeping with the role of this being a training net and to improve the emergency response skills of net participants, the HF net planning group is adding passing of message traffic to the content of the net.Ideally each week, < (View Full event Description Here: https://w4cae.com/event/sc-statewide-hf-ares-net/2022-12-06/)
Our CARC 2 meter net is every Sunday at 8:30 PM local on repeater 147.330.See our Area Nets page for more details.
Some club members go to California Dreaming on Assembly Street for EBWM; others prefer Jay’s Corner, across the street from the fairgrounds. Jay’s allows for tables being together making a better together dining experience.
The California Dreaming crew is certainly welcome and encouraged to come to Jay’s.

So, just what is simplex? When we use the term simplex, we’re talking about radio to radio communication directly, without using a repeater. Why should we care about simplex? We know there is always the possibility of an emergency which can make normal communication systems inoperable. This might include telephone, internet, and local VHF/UHF repeaters. Similarly, such an emergency can result in any or all of these systems becoming overloaded with traffic. In either case, Simplex may be the only option available for communication and passing of messages. The Central SC CARC Simplex Net exists to provide an opportunity to learn and practice Simplex skills. If local repeaters are out of service, who would you be able to contact and who could contact you? We certainly don’t want (View Full event Description Here: https://w4cae.com/event/central-sc-carc-simplex-net-on-frequency-146-400/2022-12-21/)
