  • Special Event Radio Station WX4CAE – operational the entire day.
  • Basic SKYWARN Spotter Class – 10 a.m. until noon
  • Introductory SKYWARN Net Control Orientation – 1-2 p.m.
  • Food provided.

SKYWARN Recognition Day was developed in 1999 by the National Weather Service and the American Radio Relay League. It celebrates the contributions that SKYWARN volunteers make to the NWS mission protecting life and property. Amateur radio operators form a large percentage of the SKYWARN volunteers across the country. They provide vital communication between NWS and emergency management if normal communications become inoperative.

During the SKYWARN Special Event ham operators and other SKYWARN spotters are invited to NWS offices for food, learning and fellowship, and to contact other radio operators across the world. Awards can be earned for contacting other NWS offices! You DO NOT need to be a ham radio operator to attend!
