Photos & Video: CARC operates 24 hours for Field Day 2014

FD-2014_21Members of the Columbia Amateur Radio Club operated for 24-hours straight during Field Day activities on June 28-29, making two-way contacts with nearly every state on a variety of bands and modes.

Unofficial counts show CARC made more than 860 contacts during the operating period, with five HF stations active on CW, digital and phone modes. This year’s activities were held at the Calhoun County Auxiliary Emergency Operations Center near Sandy Run.

The club hosted more than 50 guests, including members of the local media, ARRL SC Section Manager Marc Tarplee, and ARRL Roanoke Division Vice Director Jim Boehner, in addition to a number of regional hams, and citizens interested in ham radio.

My son and I had so much fun. He is still talking about Morse code, and y’all gave me some much-needed confidence to get started on HF. We plan to do start to finish next year.
