Feb. 1 general meeting notes

The Columbia Amateur Radio Club held their February general meeting on Feb. 1. The following are documents, links and information relevant to the topics discussed.

Harbison 50K presentation


David Nance, organizer/director of the Harbison 50K was on-hand Monday to present volunteers with medals of appreciation for their service during January’s event. This was the third straight year the club has supported the 50K.

CARC volunteers arrived before dawn and were deployed across several miles of the forest to keep an eye out for stray or injured runners, to assist at aid stations, direct runners and traffic, and provide runner position updates back to race staff at the finish line. At least 18 members of the club were on-hand to help.

S.C. QSO Party

Tom, W1TEF, spoke briefly on the upcoming event, scheduled for Feb. 27-28. The club’s callsign, W4CAE, will again be a bonus station. We will operate from the Dutch Fork Amateur Radio Group’s clubhouse in Little Mountain.

Presentation: A re-purposed computer power supply

12654566_1221565927871509_215466195537387006_nSteve, KI4VGA, delivered a how-to presentation on converting old PC power supplies for use in amateur radio. Anyone wishing to perform these modifications should use the utmost care and safety when dealing with electricity.

Winter Field Day report

The club had an excellent performance at this year’s Winter Field Day event, logging 40 states, Canada, Puerto Rico, and some DX. Andy, KK4DSD, shared a map showing the areas of the U.S. the club contacted.
